About the Recipe

Hachis Parmentier is a classic French comfort dish, similar to a shepherd's pie. It layers flavourful minced meat and creamy mashed potatoes, topped with cheese and baked to golden perfection. Perfect for cozy family dinners or a hearty meal any time.

Ingredients

  • 400 g minced meat

  • 300 g mashed potatoes

  • 2 onions, finely chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 fresh or canned tomatoes, diced

  • 1 tbsp flour

  • 30 g butter

  • 50 g grated cheese (such as Gruyère)

  • 30 g Parmesan, grated

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 1 pinch of herbes de Provence

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation

Method

  1. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Sauté the chopped onions and garlic until soft.

    • Add the minced meat and cook until browned. Stir in the diced tomatoes, flour, salt, pepper, and herbes de Provence. Simmer until the mixture thickens slightly.

  2. Add Flavor:

    • Remove the pan from the heat and mix in the egg yolk and Parmesan. Combine well.

  3. Preheat the Oven:

    • Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).

  4. Assemble the Dish:

    • Spread the meat mixture evenly in the bottom of a baking dish.

    • Layer the mashed potatoes over the meat and smooth the surface.

  5. Add the Topping:
    • Sprinkle the grated cheese over the top.

  6. Bake and Serve:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling. Serve hot.

Serving Suggestion: Pair with a fresh green salad or roasted vegetables for a balanced meal. Bon appétit!
